Behind the Scenes of Klaara: How To Turn a Social Pain Point Into a Real Product

Every great product starts with a problem.
Not with an idea. Not with a feature. But with a real, lived human frustration — something people quietly wrestle with, often without the right words for it.
For me, that problem was social disconnection in a new country. When I moved to Finland as an international student, I expected culture shock — but what I didn’t expect was how hard it would be to form meaningful connections. Not just meet people, but actually click with someone. Share values. Laugh at the same things. Be fully seen.
Later, I realized this wasn’t just my story — it was a silent, widespread reality for thousands of people who move abroad. Professionals, students, partners. Smart, capable, open people who — despite all their best efforts — found themselves socially isolated in their new lives.
So I set out to build something that could help.
The Idea: A Tool for Values-Based Connection
That’s how Klaara was born — a Telegram-based matching bot that helps people find emotionally resonant, like-minded friends in their city. Not dating. Not random group chats. But a simple, human-first tool to meet people you actually vibe with.
And behind this personal project lies a clear methodology — the same one I use every day as a growth strategist and founder.

Here's how it unfolded:
1. Researching the Problem Landscape
Before building anything, I dug deep:
What tools already existed (Meetup, Bumble BFF, Facebook groups)?
Where were people still struggling?
What type of connection was missing?
The insight: people didn’t need more contacts. They needed depth. Shared values. Safety. Emotional compatibility.
2. Customer Discovery: Conversations Over Assumptions
I ran 30+ interviews with expats, immigrants, and socially active locals across Finland.Everyone had their own story — but common patterns emerged:
“I meet people, but it never goes beyond surface-level.”
“I don’t want to feel like I’m selling myself in every intro.”
“I just want to find people who think like me.”
3. Prototyping: Lean, Human, No-Code
Using simple no-code tools, I prototyped an early user flow:
onboarding quiz,
city and interest-based filters,
short-form introductions based on tone & values.
Even in raw form, people loved the clarity. It made them feel seen.
4. Building the MVP
Working with a freelance developer, we built the first version of Klaara.ai as a Telegram bot:
2-minute onboarding,
matching by energy & values,
direct, private matches.
No logins, no profile fatigue. Just: here’s someone you might actually like. Say hi.
5. Beta Testing & Iteration
We invited a closed group of testers across Helsinki and Tampere. Based on their feedback, we improved:
tone of messages (from robotic → warm),
match frequency,
onboarding logic.
Users told us: “It’s like this bot gets me.” That was the sign we were onto something.
6. The Launch: Quiet, Purposeful, Local
In 2024, Klaara went live — a soft launch, focused on building trust before scale. We didn't chase virality. We chased genuine resonance.
7. Growth: Organic, Experiential, Community-Led
To grow, we focused on:
organic content (Telegram, Instagram, Facebook),
offline events in Helsinki & Tampere,
online meetups where users could talk, share, and connect.
These weren’t just marketing tactics — they were product extensions. Every interaction deepened the brand and built trust.
What Klaara Taught Me as a Marketer
Launching Klaara wasn't just personal — it was professional. It became a live case study in:
product-market fit,
human-centric UX,
organic funnel design,
building emotional trust through tech.
It reminded me what marketing is really about: serving people honestly, and building systems that create real-life value.
My Work Beyond Klaara
As the founder of a boutique marketing and growth studio, I now help startups and entrepreneurs:
design products with clarity and emotional insight,
craft personal brands that convert,
and grow in a way that feels human, not pushy.
Klaara is just one example of what’s possible when strategy, empathy, and creativity come together.
